Why Use Steel Framing?

Fire Resistance

Building with steel means building safe. Steel is absolutely non-combustible and therefore fire resistant . This not only means safety from the total destruction of a building should it catch on fire, it also mean minimal damage; unlike wood framing, steel framing will not act as a fuel for the fire. This is one reason steel has been used in the major construction of most major institutions, offices, shops, and industrial buildings. Now, as people are realizing its many benefits, steel is also being used to build homes.

Mold

Unlike wood, steel studs do not promote the growth of mold . Mold has the ability to grow on any kind of organic material. Steel, however, is an inorganic material. Mold can begin to grow on wood even when it is still in the lumberyard.

Termites

For a long time the termite has been an evasive household pest. They eat away at the structure of your home. Luckily termites have absolutely no taste for steel. A steel home is not only safe from termites , but any insect that may have a taste for a wood framed home.

Problems You Won't Encounter With Steel

Lightening

Contrary to popular belief, if lightening were to strike your steel framed home it would simply follow the steel studs on a quick path directly to the ground. This will stop harm to both your home and your family.

Rust

It is automatic to assume that because steel is metal it will rust. However, steel that is used in construction is galvinized. This means that the steel is coated with a thin layer of zinc in order to prevent corrosion. It will not rust!

The Green Thumb

Steel is a very auspicious product when it comes to environmentally friendly construction. Regular steel, like the kind used to make cars, is 65% recyclable and does not lose any of its strength through the recycling process. The steel used in the construction of your home or business is 100% recyclable. In order to build a 2,000 sq ft home you would need almost 60 large mature trees. To build that same house out of steel it would only take about six recycled cars, and you would also benefit from all the advantages that come with steel. It is obvious with these simple figures that galvanized steel is the best choice for your construction needs.

Because steel is more stable dimensionally it does not expand or contract like a wood. This prevents air infiltrating into your home keeping it better insulated and allowing for lower utility bills!

Steel is also enviromentelly friendly during construction. Studs are already pre-punched with holes so that they snap together easily. This leaves you with little debris and a clean worksite.

The Case of Natural Disaster...

1. Steel framed homes can be built to exceed all regulations for seismic and wind-loads prescribed by building codes.

2. All studs are screwed together instead of nailed making connections between the studs stronger and less likely to be torn apart.

3. Steel has a greater strength-to-weight ratio than any other building material (even stronger then concrete).

4. During an earthquake steel tends to move with the seismic waves not against them preventing the structure from collapsing.
